watering
They get Wet, I get Water

written by kat chua

drops of water
land on my shoulders,
before looking up
my heart hopes for rain.

before a wish can be made,
trickles of droplets
run down my cheek
as I stroll down the street,
others pick up their pace
and head for the trains.

my heartbeat thumps
to the rhythm of the rain dancing.
a smile forms
at the feel of water
refreshing my skin.
the regrets of the day
are washed.

I close my eyes and reminisce
of my love affair with water:
a worriless child laughing
at the roaring open hydrant.
a school girl singing under the sprinkles.
a blissful teen taking her first
bubble bath.
a dreamy-eyed grrrl kissed in the rain.

every drop carrying memories
of hurt and hope.
reminding and cleansing

nothing like a good watering.
