hello there...
kat chua here...
As a New York storyteller, I have spent my life people-watching and suffering from what Pete Hamill calls the Disease of Nostalgia. In conjunction with my studies in Anthropology & Sociology, my work as an artist is a reflection of what I have witnessed and experienced in an era of transition, from Post-Modernity to Cosmopolitanism. My work is a reflection of inner and outer, individual and group, experiences in a time when heroes and vigilantes are a dying breed; a time when our voices are too loud to be heard; a time when the body has forgotten the soul and a time when the individual struggles to forget and remember their membership to society.

But there exists truths often forgotten: Our time and struggles are not new. We have history on our side.

My works reflect upon the anomie and isolation fueled by egos, comparing our insides to other people's outsides. Therefore resulting in our feeling, thinking, and believing that we are alone: voiceless and powerless
But it is through the lenses of willingness and action of blind faith in our shared humanity, that light can be shed unto our greatest asset as social beings; through the acknowledgement of our similarities and the acceptance and celebration of our differences, exists great strength to promote and encourage our growth as individuals and as members of society.

The focus of my life's work is on the pains, fears, humor, faith, and glimpses of hope in the human experience. I am here to tell the story of my New York, its people, its memories, its wounds, and its grace.

Lastly, many respects to the artist R.B. Kitaj. Thank you.
